About Edwin Parris Jr.

Career

My career has moved across sectors where technology carries real institutional weight, including education, public policy, higher education, medical science, global media production, and advertising operations.

Across these environments, I have learned that technology problems are rarely just tool issues. They often involve unclear ownership, broken workflows, undocumented dependencies, data gaps, process risk, and communication breakdowns between business and technical teams. Recognizing the importance of business systems in this context is crucial for effective solutions.

With a background in cybersecurity and information systems, I bring a practical lens to these challenges, emphasizing the need for cybersecurity awareness. I can support technical operations, analyze business workflows, identify risks, translate requirements, and communicate effectively across users, leadership, and technical stakeholders.

My professional focus is on helping organizations make better sense of the systems they depend on, driving process improvement and ensuring seamless integration of technology.

Cross-Sector Story

I have worked across school and district technology, research and policy-adjacent environments, higher education and medical science, global post-production and media operations, and business-facing operational environments. In each of these settings, while the context changed, the underlying patterns remained consistent.

Organizations depend on business systems not only to function but to do so reliably. When these systems drift away from how people actually work, friction appears in various forms: support volume increases, ownership becomes unclear, cybersecurity awareness diminishes, and business goals start relying on inefficient workarounds.

That is the work I am built for. I specialize in process improvement to help make those hidden dependencies visible.

Cybersecurity and information systems foundation

My academic foundation includes graduate cybersecurity study at UC Berkeley, a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems focused on Information Security and Assurance, and analytical training that sharpened formal reasoning, including discrete mathematics. This background has equipped me with a strong understanding of business systems and the importance of cybersecurity awareness in today’s digital landscape.

Technically, my background includes Azure, Microsoft 365, Intune, Jamf, Microsoft Defender/ATP, CrowdStrike, FortiClient, Windows, Linux, VMware Horizon, Proxmox, Citrix, Python, Bash, endpoint security, role-based access control, automation, and compliance-aware operations. I have utilized these technical skills to drive process improvement in various projects.

I have worked in environments shaped by HIPAA, MPA-aligned content security, CMMC, and NIST 800-171 expectations. This combination keeps me grounded in both execution and risk.

Personal operating philosophy

I believe that effective technology work extends beyond merely keeping business systems online. It involves assisting an organization in making informed decisions about how it utilizes systems, protects information, defines ownership, and supports the people executing the work.

I value clarity, precision, accountability, and first-hand understanding. My goal is to bring a calm, structured perspective to messy operational problems, facilitating process improvement while connecting technical details to real-world impact, including enhancing cybersecurity awareness.
